Life in Yokohama

  It was very warm today, 23 degrees Celsius, 73 degrees Fahrenheit.  We went for a walk at Motomachi street, as we wanted to have lunch at certain restaurant but it was closed at lunch time.  So we had lunch at burger house "codie's".  We had blue cheese jalapeno pepper burger and iced coffee.  It was yummy.  1-5-7, Shinyamashita, Naka-ku, Yokohama コディーズでハンバーガーを食べました。ドン・キホーテの近くです。 Bluff No.234 　山手２３４番館 Christmas decor theme is Peru.  As I majored in Spanish at college,  I longed for traveling Latin America when I was young .  It was interesting to talk with Peruvians at Bluff No.234.  Folklore concert was given today.  山手２３４番館の今年のクリスマステーマは、ペルーです。クリスマスツリーには、リャマがつるされているようです。 南米に興味があったので、山手２３４番館の装飾が一番楽しかったです。スペイン語が話せる人は、ペルー人のスタッフをしている人と話すと楽しいかも知れません。 Ehrismann Residence  　エリスマン邸 Christmas decor theme is Italian.  エリスマン邸のテーマは、イタリアでした。 Berrich Hall 　ベーリックホール Chrismas decor is Austrian.  As I am big fan of Austrian TV dram...

 World Christmas 2023 at Yamate Western museum is my favorite event.  Admission fee is free.  Bluff No.18 Building ブラフ18番館 This building was built as priest house of Yamate Cathoric church.  16, Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama 5 minutes walk from JR Ishikawa-cho station. 大正末期に外国人住宅として建てられた建物。戦後はカトリック山手教会の司祭館として使われ、現在の場所に移築されました。 学生時代にカトリックの施設（修道院や鎌倉にあった西洋館など）を訪問したことがあるので、ブラフ18番館を訪れると懐かしい気持ちになります。 Living room "Sweeden Christmas" is theme of Bluff No.18. 今年のブラフ18番館は、スウェーデンがテーマです。 冬が長い北欧では手作りの幸せを呼ぶダーラナホースが作られます。 このピアノは、100年前の松本ピアノです。 Diplomat's house  外交官の家 Adjacent to Bluff No.18. Theme is "Vietnamese Christmas"  View from the garden. This fountain reminds me of Alhambra. 庭園には、噴水が作られていました。スペインのアルハンブラ宮殿を思い出しました。

  Oowakudani You can watch the view of Oowakudani taking Hakone Ropeway.  Gora - Sounzan (Hakone Tozan railway) There were so many foreign tourists as covid-19 situation has improved.  Souunzan station was renovated in July 2020. You can take footbath at the station.  早雲山駅は、2020年7月に改装されたので、ピカピカできれいです。足湯が楽しめます。  ケーブルカーは、雨の日は窓の外の景色が全く見えません。箱根フリーパスは、雨の日は買わない方が良いです。 View from Hakone Ropeway Hakone Ropeway in Halloween You can see Ashinoko. 前回雨が降った時に、ロープウェイに乗ったときは、窓の外が真っ白の霧でおおわれて、景色がまったく見えませんでした。箱根フリーパスを購入したためロープーウェイに乗ったのですが、雨の日は乗らない方が良いです。最も悪天候の時は、ロープウェイが止まる可能性があります。 Ashinoko　Pirate ship  Tohgendai - Motohakone port 私たちがでかけたときは、日本人観光客より外国人観光客の方が多かったです。フランス語をしゃべる大人数のグループが乗船しました。 元箱根港から湯本までバスで戻る場合、グルーっと大回りをして強羅の方を通って帰ります。通勤電車のラッシュなみにバスに乗る人がいたので、席に座れたのはラッキーでした。座れなければ40分以上立ちっぱなしでした。

 We use Hakone Freepass for overnight trip.  As public transportation in Yokohama is convenient, we don't posses a car.  It takes less than 15 minutes to the two train station.   Hakone Over night trip to Hakone is famous for citizen in Yokohama. It takes about 90 -120 minutes from Yokohama by train.  So if we work at the office until 4pm, we would check in the hotel by dinner time.   To check ETA, I use Norikae Annai (Route Search Japan Transit planner). 横浜市民にとって、箱根は身近な観光地です。仕事が終わってから、電車に乗って箱根湯本に向かっても、横浜から1時間半位で到着するからです。私はJRでなく小田急で箱根に向かうので、交通費も安いです。 Hotel  There are a lot of hotels at Hakone.  My favorite hotel is Hotel Maille Coueur （ホテルマイユクール祥月）.  It takes about 12 minute on foot from Hakone Yumoto station.  I chose this hotel as dinner and breakfast is good and room is clean.  箱根湯本に午後５時半位に到着するので、箱根湯本にあるマイユクール祥月に宿泊しました。このホテルは女性向きの心遣いがあり、食事がとてもおいしいです。 箱根湯本の駅周辺は、店じまいが早いです。ホテルの食事時間が７時半位だと、小腹が空くかも知れません。でも夕飯の量は（女性には）たっぷりあるので、何も食べないでおく方がいいと思います。 チーズと生ハム 一口サイズで色々な物が出てきます。 写真がうまく取れなかったのですが、デザートの分量がたっぷりあります。 ホテルの値段は、じゃらんなどで調べられますが、食事の良さと部屋の広さを考えるとコスパが高いホテルだと思います。私たちは１泊1.5万円位で泊まりました。

Picture taken at Yamashita park in May. I stayed at home about 2 weeks as the doctor told me not to go out.  Today I went to the hospital as I might use medical certificate paper at company.  (It cost 6,000 yen). After seeing the orthopedist,    I bought ingredients for dinner  and some sweets for co-workers as I would quit the company.    Then I found out it's difficult to walk having heavy ingredients with both of my hands.  As my walking pace is half, I felt like calling taxi. (Of course I didn't.  It cost 1,000 for less than 1 kilometer. I will practice foot exercise recommended at the hospital from now on. 2週間ほど家の中で過ごして今日初めて病院に行くために外出しました。マンションの短い階段を降りるときも、手すりにつかまらないと怖いです。普段の半分以下のスピードでしか歩けません。整形外科でお医者さんの診断書を書いてもらいました。健康保険の病気の手当に使おうかと思ったのですが、手続きが煩雑そうなのでやめました。6000円かかったのは痛かったです。 病院にでかけた帰りにスーパーで食材を買い、勤務先の同僚用にお菓子を買いました。（仕事をやめるため）。そうしたら重くなってしまい、帰り道がしんどくなりました。やはり買い物はしばらくネットスーパーで行い、どうしても買わなければいけない時は、少しだけ買うようにしようと思います。

 I started to listen to the radio when I was junior high school student.  At that time, FEN Tokyo (Far East network) 810khz,  (AFN, American Forces Radio) was good way to listen to American pop music.  American top 40 and Wolfman Jack show were my favorite program.   Of course, I listened to Japanese  program a lot.   NHK FM broadcasted variety of music program  It was popular to record music and songs in stereo. I have learned all the Beatles songs by radio.   Now I use radio app "Radiko", or Tune in radio using desk top PC.   Lyric of "Radio Gaga"  by Roger Taylor  touches my chord. ラジオをよく聞くようになったのは、中学生の頃。FENでAmerican Top 40などを聞きました。当時は、定期テストで夜遅くまで勉強したとき、深夜放送も聞いたものです。短波放送で、海外の日本語放送を聞くことも、一部の人に人気がありました。ラジオオーストラリアやBBCなどに受信報告書を出すと、きれいなベリカードを送ってくれました。 I baked Taiwanese Castella that taught at cooking lesson of Yokohama Izumi kitchen. 料理教室のYokohama Izumi Kitchenさんで教わった台湾カステラを作ってみました。先生のレシピで作る料理は、皆おいしいです。

There is no sweets left at home.  As I am prohibied to go out for knee problem, I tried to bake banana cake with foodstaff at home - 2 bananas, wheat flour,  egg, sugar, butter, whiskey　(instead of rum), sesame (instead of walnut).  今外出ができないのですが、お菓子が食べたくなりました。そこで家にある食材で作れそうなバナナケーキを作りました。ラム酒がないので、ウィスキーで代用、クルミがないので、白ごまで代用しました。今果物の中で一番安いのは、バナナでしょう。 夕飯は、餃子と鮭の南蛮漬けにしました。餃子は私はキャベツより白菜を使う方が好きですが、買ってあるのはキャベツだけでした。本当は、ニラと干しシイタケを入れたかったです。ゼラチンを入れたのは、残っていたので消費するためでした。 For dinner, I cooked gyoza and sake no nanbanzuke（ Fried salmon marinated in spicy vinegar sauce).  For gyoza fillings, cabbege, ground meat, starch, minced ginger, garlic, gelatin).  I should have bought Chinese chive and dried shiitake.

Since I can't go out now,  I bought food and commodity by online supermarket. There are several shops I can use. Life (Amazon prime),  Ito Yokado,  Seiyu, Home co-op, Co-op delivery.  I chose  Seiyu as delivery fee over 5,500 yen. 　Ordering by 1 pm,  I can cook dinner using what I purchase.  外出できないので、ネットスーパーで商品を購入しました。私が住んでいる地域では、５件位のネットスーパーを利用できます。生協のパルシステムを利用したことがありますが、今日の夕飯に欲しいと思ったときは、間に合わないで、楽天西友を利用しました。 ネットスーパーで買った商品は、ビニール袋に入った状態で届きました。 Goods are delivered with plastic bag.  ゴミ出しをするときのゴミ袋が減るのが早いので、プラスチックの袋は訳に立ちます。私が住んでいる地域は、週に５回仕分けをしてゴミを出しますが、ペットボトル、缶ゴミなどを一つ一つ仕分けため、ゴミ袋がすぐになくなってしまいます。 What I bought was Rice(5kg) kitchen paper Tissue box butter Rice cracker Potatoes Onions Carrot Cabbage Ginger Elingi Garlic tube Ground meat, pork, Gyoza sheet, Sesame oil, Salmon, Bread, Pasta, Cutting tomato, and Milk.   As I can't go out for knee problem, I use on line supermarket.   As I don't like dish cooked at supermarket, what I order is vegetables, meat, fish and fruit.  What I ate for dinner was radish cake, home made pickled plum(umeboshi, made this summer), miso soup. 外出ができないのでネットスーパーで食材を調達しています。でもスーパーの総菜は好きではないのでほとんど買いません。野菜や肉、牛乳などを買います。以前は仕事が終わってから5kg位の食材を買って歩いて帰っていました。 I found recipe "making bread in 30 minutes".  I am surprised to get bread in 30 minutes indeed.  ネットで30分で作れるパンのレシピを見つけました。強力小麦粉、ドライイースト、牛乳、砂糖だけで作れます。これなら買い物に行かなくても家にあったので作ってみました。本当に30分で作れたので感激しました。

 There are several restaurants good for birthday lunch at Yokohama Motomachi.  We have tried French restaurants, Mutekiroh,  ST, Le Putit Courageux and ST is our favorite restaurant.　 ST is operated by Mr. Shigeta Takeshi and his wife.  He loves vegetables of Kamakura, and his high quality dishes of French style springs into fame. We are impressed by hospitality of the Shigetas.  As seats are limited, reservation is must.  前菜の卵料理 繊細な味わいの野菜 肉料理 白身魚 元町には素敵なレストランが沢山ありますが、最近のお気に入りはSTさんです。テーブル席が確か３つ位だったので、予約は必須です。若い夫婦で運営されているお店で、接客の良さに感銘を受けました。 #Yokohama Motomachi #French restaurant

  Yokohama Hilton was opened on September 24, 2023 near Shintakashima station.  (10 minutes walk from Yokohama station.)  Hilton is adjacent to K arena.  We had lunch buffet, making reservation on hotel website.  Price is 5,000 yen. It was a little difficult to find the entrance of the restaurant  Parade . (located on 3rd floor).  I ate curry rice, fried chicken, salad, potato, soup, hamburgar etc.  For dessert, I ate cream puff, marron pudding, strawberry cake, chocolate cake. We say "Amai mono ha betsubara"　(I have a dessert stomach). They are yummy!  

 At the backroom of my working place,  suddenly I could not walk at all.  I felt shooting pain around my knee, so I tried to walk placing my hands on the wall.  I called a taxi to come back home.   The next day, I went to the hospital of orthopedics.    The doctor advised me not to go out and stay at home at least 2 weeks.   仕事があと少しで終わりの時、突然左足の膝の脇に痛みが走り、歩けなくなりました。片付け物をした後、何とか壁に手をついて移動し、タクシーを呼んで帰宅しました。翌日に整形外科で診てもらったところ、「変形性膝関節症でしょう、歩こうとはしないで、家の中で安静にしていなさい」と言われました。痛い治療はなしで、サポーターと湿布を処方されました。 家に帰ってからも歩けなかったので、キャスター付きの椅子を買いました。今はサポーターをつければ家の中は歩けますが、椅子で室内を移動するのは便利です。掃除機をかけるときは椅子に座って行っています。 食材は西友のネットスーパーで注文しました。牛乳4本、キャベツ、ひき肉、夫のお弁当用の冷凍食品、みかん、甘栗等を送料無料の5500円を超えるよう注文しました。 足の具合が悪くても家の中で楽しめることはあります。ピアノの発表会に参加はできないと先生に連絡しましたが、シャミナードの森の精とラフマニノフのアンダーテ　カンタービレを弾く予定だったので、練習しようと思います。ペダルを踏むのが右足で良かったです。 洋画と海外ドラマが好きで、スカパー、アマゾンプライム、Netflixに契約しています。ウィーンの警察犬Rexを再びスカパーで見ることができるのは、うれしいです。ゲームオブスローンズのレーザーディスクを夫が買ったので、毎晩のように見ています。 これからのブログに、足に問題がなく外出していた最近の出来ことを書いてみよう...

I have just received gift from radio show " Asa radi by Hidetake Takashima ." -tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers dressing,  from JA Sambugun city. I became fan of Nippon Hoso.  Nippon Hoso has variety of program that offers present.

It was sad to see how the site of 109 cinemas MM has changed. We went to the movies often on weekend. You might recognize Shintakashima station. 109シネマズＭＭの跡地を見ました。 写真の中央の壊された部分です。 真ん中より右側の部分に見える のが、新高島駅です。 この駅を利用するのは、マンション の住民位でしょうか。 109 cinemas MM was closed on January 25, 2015. 109シネマズみなとみらいは、2015年 １月25日に閉館しました。 ネットの情報では、もう存在しない 109シネマズみなとみらいが未だに 営業しているような掲載の仕方を している所があります。この写真は 最終日に撮影しました。 　　 There were cafe,  Jonathan variety store, game center live house in the building. 喫茶店があった場所です。 １０９シネマズＭＭの周囲は 行きたいレストランが少なく 横浜駅周辺で食事をしてい ました。 "0 day for closing, Good bye" ２０１５年１月２５日に撮った ので、閉館まで０日に なっています。  Group efforts We watched "BayMax" on the final day.  閉館日に、ベイマックスを見ました。 109シネマズＭＭ閉館の２週間位前 から。旧作のリヴァイバル上映を 500円でやっていたので、沢山見ました。
